The visit to the Emberá community in Chagres National Park, located along the river leading to the Panama Canal, is largely regarded as a tourist attraction. In 1975, the Emberá people relocated from the hazardous Darien Province of Panama due to the persistent armed conflicts in the region established new settlements within Chagres National Park, with special permission from the Panamanian government. This agreement stipulated that they would refrain from deforestation for agricultural purposes and limit hunting to subsistence needs. Consequently, their primary source of income shifted to tourism. My visit to this area was in march 2019.
