George Edward Nixon

I first met George in 2009, and we would occasionally enjoy coffee together. I remember very well when we went for lunch together with Jean Marc Braun. George had a strong interest in photography. Originally from Canada, he had been living in Luxembourg since 1977. His life was challenging, and he faced homelessness in 2004. Nixon is remembered as a dedicated photographer and a crucial member of Stëmm vun der Strooss (Voice of the Street) since 2000, where he committed himself to helping others.

George, residing in a room in Dommeldange, shared with me that at times he felt the need to sleep outside in the city, reminiscent of his experiences during his period of homelessness.

Following my wife's chemotherapy and the removal of her portacaths, she expressed a desire to get a tattoo to conceal the scar. On the evening of December 22nd, 2018, I was out with George while my wife got the tattoo. Since that day, George frequently mentioned my wife's tattoo, which was done at a studio called "One More Tattoo." Later, when he was diagnosed with lung cancer, George sought to learn everything he could about chemotherapy from me.

I visited him several times during his hospitalization for lung cancer. He passed away on November 19, 2019. Alex Heyar was the initial person to inform me about George's passing.

I shot a last photo of George on the 8th November 2019 when I met him in the city. He had plans, wanted to travel to Lourdes in compagny of a group and the Bishop. George wanted to call me.... George enjoyed performing on camera and served as an extra in both national and international film productions in Luxembourg. His experience includes participation in 65 local and international projects, notably the German-Luxembourg series "Bad Banks." He never disclosed his homelessness to his employers.
